Amazon Kindle での4冊目 Valley of the Shadow / Tom Pawlik。

Vanished の続編。さらに宗教色が濃くなっているが、無宗教の私でも全く気にならずに難なく楽しめる。1作目同様、とてもよくできたストーリーで、最後までページめくりが止まらない。

さて、この本で気になった表現は。。

Death was the one thing they could be certain of, yet they acted as though ignorance would make them live forever.

人々は何とも不条理であることを上手いこと表現しているなぁ。

電話対応で使えそうな表現かな？taken a leave of absenceなんて思いもつかない表現だ。腹痛が痛い、に近いみたいな。

この本の中に出てくる頭が弱い子、というか、無教養な子がDouble negativeをそれと知らずに使ったのに対して、同じくDouble negativeで、馬鹿にして答えているところ。ことばの乱れはいつの時代にもあるものだ。
